Jan Voges studied electrical engineering at Leibniz University Hannover with specialization on communications engineering. He received his Dipl.-Ing. degree from Leibniz University Hannover in 2015. After graduating he joined Institut für Informationsverarbeitung at Leibniz University Hannover where he currently works as a research assistant towards his PhD. In the second half of the year 2018 he worked as a visiting scholar at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is an active contributor to the MPEG working groups of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29 where he contributes to the series of MPEG-G standards (ISO/IEC 23092), and where he serves as co-editor of parts 2 and 5 of MPEG-G. His current research ranges from information theory and data compression to bioinformatics.
