Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Laude
Thorsten Laude left the Institut für Informationsverabeitung.
Publications and research activities from the time after the departure are not listed here.

Thorsten Laude studied electrical engineering at Leibniz Universität Hannover with specialization on communication engineering and received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in 2013. In his diploma thesis "Bewegungsunschärfekompensation zur Verbesserung der Prädiktion in der skalierbaren Videocodierung" he developed a motion blur compensation algorithm for the scalable extension of HEVC. He joined InterDigital Communications for an internship in 2013. At InterDigital Communications, he intensified his research for the scalable extension of HEVC.

After graduating he joined Institut für Informationsverarbeitung at Leibniz Universität Hannover. He contributed to several standardization meetings for the next generation video coding standard "High Efficiency Video Coding" (HEVC) of the MPEG and VCEG "Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding" (JCT-VC). His paper Improved Inter-Layer Prediction for the Scalable Extensions of HEVC published at the Data Compression Conference (DCC) 2014 won the Lucy A. Mahjoubian Distinguished Publication Award sponsored by InterDigital Communications.

He has more than 30 academic papers, standardization contributions, a patent, and patent applications.

His current research interests are intra coding for HEVC and VVC, still image coding, and machine learning-based video encoder control.

He submitted his PhD thesis with the title "Konturbasierte multidirektionale Intra-Prädiktion für die Videocodierung" in June 2020 and left Institut für Informationsverarbeitung at the end of July 2020.
